Odisha Tourism gets the “Best Tourism Festival Award”




Dr. Jyotiskar Mohapatra, Chairman and Sri Manoranjan Patnaik, General Manager, OTDC receiving the Best Tourism Festival Destination Award from Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal, Hon’ble Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh at Shimala on 07.04.2012.

            Odisha Tourism has bagged the Best Tourism Festival Destination Award in a prestigious award ceremony of International Tourism Conclave & Travel Award function held at East Bourne Resorts & Spa, Shimla, Himachal Pradesh. Dr. Jyotiskar Mohapatra, Chairman, OTDC and Sri Manoranjan Patnaik, General Manager, OTDC jointly received the award on behalf of Odisha Tourism from Hon’ble Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh Prof. Prem Kumar Dhumal in the presence of Mr. R. S. Khwaja, Secretary, Tourism, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, Miss. Manisha Nanda, Secretary, tourism & Civil Aviation, Himachal Pradesh, Mr. Vipul Mitra, Principal Secretary, Tourism Devastan Management Pilgrimage, Govt. of Gujurat and Mr. Ajaya Gupta, CMD of International Tourism Conclave & Travel Award. Hon’ble Chief Minister, Himachal Pradesh Prof. Dhumal also awarded other international tourism companies, boards, departments, destinations, hotels, resorts, travel agencies for excellency in tourism. The other States which received the awards were Himachal Pradesh Tourism, Gujurat Tourism, Jammu & Kashmir Tourism, Madhya Pradesh Tourism, Chhatisgarh Tourism, Maharastra Tourism and the international awards in different fields were given to Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, China Tourism, etc.
            ITCTA promotes tourism by undertaking promotional and publicity activities, facilitate the exchange of market information, encourage partnerships between the public & private sector and facilitate the easing of barriers to travel industries.

            Odisha Tourism has been playing a significant role to showcase the rich cultural and religious heritage through its treasure of classical & folk music & dance. Odisha got this recognition as the best Tourism Festival Destination Award for its innovative and cultural related activities during the past few years. The rich cultural heritage of Odisha has been show-cased through its colourful festivals like : (1) International Sand Art Festival, (2) International Surfing Festival, (3) International Odissi Festival, (4) Gotipua Dance Festival, (5) Konark Festival, (6) Toshali National Crafts Mela, (7) Dhauli-Kalinga Mahotsav, (8) Mukteswar Dance Festival, (9) Rajarani Music Festival, (10) Choreography Festival of Dance (Samrachana).

            The International Sand Art Festival and International Surfing Festival were organized for the first time in India by Odisha Tourism. In addition to this, the Guinness record event with 518 Odissi Dancers performing together for 28 minutes was also organized by Odisha Tourism. Further a Jugalbandi with US 3D chalk artist and Sudarshan Pattnaik, International Sand Artists was also organized by Odisha Tourism in collaboration with US Consulate General, Hyderabad, which was also a rare event of its kind organized in India.

KIIT Inter-Technical College Basketball Tournament




Bhubaneswar : The 3rd KIIT Inter-Technical College Basketball Tournament – 2012 opened on 30th March 2012 at KIIT University campus. Teams from 12 technical and professional colleges of Odisha are participating in the tournament. Teams have been divided into four groups. Three teams from Bhubaneswar - KIIT-A, GEC and OEC – feature in Group A. Group B has teams like KIIT- B from Bhubaneswar, VSSUT from Burla and NIST from Berhampur. XIMB & KEC from Bhubanewsar and DRIEMS from Cuttack have been clubbed in Group C. IIIT, SOA and Silicon from Bhubaneswar form Group D. The matches would be played in KIIT Basketball Ground at Campus – 8 from 6 am to 9 am and from 4 pm to 9 pm under flood light. Semifinals, final and closing ceremony are scheduled on 1st April 2012.

Mega Guardians' Meet at KISS




Bhubaneswar : Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) organized a mega guardians' meet on 25th March 2012. More than 30,000 people, all parents and guardians of tribal students of KISS, attended the meet. They got a firsthand experience of the institute where their wards are studying during the day-long programme.

Assembly of such a large number of tribals representing 62 tribes and 13 primitive tribal communities from all corners of Odisha is one of its kind. Like every year, KISS authorities made elaborate arrangements to host the parents in this mega assembly. These arrangements included their food, shelter and transport.

KISS has been doing a noble work towards the development of tribals of the state as well as neighboring states, guardians said, hoping that the State as well as Central government would also take effective steps for tribal students and their development. Some people who are trying to create obstacles on the way of KISS should learn something from this Institute, they added.

Parents and guardians attending the meet expressed their profound gratitude to Dr. A. Samanta, Founder, KIIT & KISS for securing the future of their children. KISS provides education from KG to PG, vocational training, food, accommodation and all other basic necessities of life absolutely free of cost to 15000 tribal children. They were satisfied to see that their children are getting education and care at par with any good public school in a beautiful environment.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Samanta adviced them that only education can ensure a dignified life to them as the traditional way of living is now impossible due to lack of natural resources. Ms. Saswati Bal, President, KIIT & KISS, Dr. P. K. Routaray, CEO, KISS and Mr. P. K. Das, Livelihood Director, KISS also spoke on the occasion.

Second BCI – MILAT Professional Development Training Programme concluded at KIIT




Bhubaneswar : The ‘Second BCI – MILAT Professional Development Training Programme – MELA for Young Advocates’ concludes here on 25th March 2012. The 3 day long programme was organized by KIIT School of Law in association with BCI from 23rd – 25th March focuses on the emerging area like Plea-bargaining, Corporate Criminal Liability, Judicial Review, Rule of Law, Constitutional Governance, Arbitration, Mediation/ Negotiation and basic skills and challenges of criminal practices. On its inaugural ceremony Mr. Deepak Mishra, judge, Supreme Court of India in his inaugural speech said, English is the language of Law. All the young professionals of law should have fluency over English he said. Ram Jethmalani, legendary legal professional and MP (RS) said the lawyer who knows only law can’t be a good lawyer. He is supposed to have sufficient general knowledge and knowledge about in and around the world. A lawyer has to aware about the day to day activities in the world, he added. On the concluding session Prof. N. R. Madhav Menon, eminent Legal educator of India gives importance on legal reforms. He said though there is Gram Nyayalaya act in India to draw larger road map for judicial reforms. The Gram Nyayalaya is the latest in the reforms in the structure of the Indian judiciary. But it is not working properly. To give a real reform to the legal sector of Indian society law students must study more and more, he added.

15,000 KISS Students Appeal Maoists to Free Italian Nationals





Bhubaneswar : Tribal boys and girls of Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) have made a humble appeal to Maoist organizations for an early release of two Italian tourists abducted by them. Total 15,000 students of KISS gathered at the institute campus on 20th March 2012 afternoon and made the appeal to Maoists through mass media. Two Italian nationals – Mr. Paolo Bosusco and Mr. Claudio Colangelo – who were on a sightseeing visit to Daringibadi, were abducted from Kandhamal – Ganjam border recently. The two foreign nationals are our guests, the students said, while appealing Maoists for their early release. Their release will go a long way in ensuring a good image for tribal community, the State and the country, they added.



SENIOR CITIZEN’S RECREATION CLUB INAUGURATED AT RAIL VIHAR




Bhubaneswar, 20th March:
Smt. Ratna Ghosh, President, East Coast Railway Women’s Welfare Organisation (ECoRWWO) inaugurated the Senior Citizen’s Recreation Club at Rail Vihar, Chandrasekharpur, Bhubaneswar, yesterday. This Recreation Club will give the elderly people a platform where they can use their skill, knowledge and expertise for benefit of the Society in general & elderly people in particular.
Addressing senior citizens at Rail Vihar on the occasion, Smt. Ghosh said that, initiative taken by the ECoRWWO will help senior citizens to further develop their experience and expertise in finding solutions to various problems faced by them in their day to day life. Apart from this, senior citizens will surely enjoy the benefits of a better living by meeting with new people and having fun, fellow feeling amongst themselves which will reduce levels of stress & anxiety.
Exercises for senior citizens are necessary Smt. Ghosh stressed upon the need of recreation also. This Recreation Club will go a long way for the benefit of the senior citizens by providing a better life style. East Coast Railway Womens Welfare Organisation’s activities for the poor, orphan, widow & distressed women & for the elders will certainly help in improving better standard of living for a healthy society.

SAMBALPUR-KORAPUT PASSENGER FLAGGED OFF




Sambalpur, 18th March 2012:

Shri Amarnath Pradhan, Hon’ble Member of Parliamrnt (Lok Sabha)
flagged off the new passenger train between Sambalpur and Koraput in
presence of Shri Ashok Kumar Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager,
Sambalpur at Sambalpur Railway Station today.

Welcoming the distinguished guests on this occasion, Shri Ashok Kumar
Gupta, Divisional Railway Manager, East Coast Railway/Sambalpur stated
that, the Sambalpur Division of ECoR has made all round efforts for
development in the region as well as of its jurisdiction. Highlighting
the development and achievement of Sambalpur Railway Division of East
Coast Railway, Shri Gupta stated that, this Division has taken
necessary steps to complete various traffic works and works relating
to train operations with the co-operation of State Government.
Passenger facilities at important stations like Bargarh, Balangir,
Titlagarh, Kesinga, Mahasamund etc. has been considerably improved in
last two years.

Speaking on this occasion, Shri Amarnath Pradhan, Member of Parliament
(Lok Sabha) expressed his happiness for introduction of this new
train. The programme was attended by all Senior Railway officers with
dignitaries from Govt. of Orissa.

This train will leave Sambalpur at 10.00 hrs.  and will arrive  at
Koraput at 00.45 hrs.. In the return journey, the train will leave
Koraput at 2.30 hrs. and will arrive Sambalpur at 18.00 hrs. This
train will stop at all stations between Sambalpur –Koraput.

SAMBALPUR-KORAPUT PASSENGER TO BE INTRODUCED




Bhubaneswar : As announced in Railway Budget, it has been decided to introduce a daily passenger train between Sambalpur & Koraput. On the inaugural run, this train will leave Sambalpur w.e.f. 18th March 2012 and from Koraput w.e.f. 19th March 2012.

58301 Sambalpur-Koraput passenger will leave Sambalpur at 10.00hrs and will arrive at Koraput at 00.45hrs (mid night) and in the return direction 58302 Koraput-Sambalpur passenger will leave Koraput at 02.30hrs and will arrive Sambalpur at 18.00hrs.

This train has Six General Second Class coaches and Two Guard cum Luggage Vans in its composition having stoppages as per the time table including Balangir, Titlagarh & Rayagada between Sambalpur & Koraput.
