, 19/10 ( Odisha Samachar ) : ‘X-athon’, an initiative aiming to inspire
individuals to work towards a healthier self and contribute to a healthier
society , For the first time in Bhubaneswar, organised by XUB . Many people
joined this initiative to express their support towards this noble cause. Every
step that has been taken in this initiative was an attempt to add a smile to
the vast multitude of underprivileged souls in our society.
The event witnessed a total
participation of more than 700 people from dynamic backgrounds. The marathon
started from XUB-XIMB campus to Patia Square and back through Omfed Square and
NALCO Square. The entire amount collected
through X-Athon was donated to the Smile Foundation. Arun Mishra, Vice
President Tata Steel, Gopalpur Project and Manikant Nayak, Chief Resident
Officer, Tata Steel, Bhubaneswar were the Chief Guests. The winner of the
general category was Isaac Ngemui from Kenya. He completed the 10km marathon in
a mere 30 mintutes 48 seconds. He was awarded a cash prize of Rs.25000. In the
women’s category, Samsad Ara Begum was the winner, and finished the race in 40
minutes and 6 seconds. She was awarded Rs. 10000 gift vouchers worth Rs. 5000.
In an attempt to touch as many lives as
possible, using Xpressions’14 as a platform, XUB organised this Marathon to
bring together the socially responsible people and provide them an opportunity
to contribute to those in need and spread smiles.
