“Vigilance is an effective tool and not a hurdle,” says CEO, RSP

Rourkels :  “For any modern business concern, Vigilance is an effective tool and
not a hurdle,” said Mr. G S Prasad, CEO, Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) in
his address at the inaugural function of Vigilance Week organised by
Vigilance Dept of RSP, at HRDC in 31st October. He inaugurated the
programme by lighting the ceremonial lamp. Speaking on the occasion,
Mr. Prasad paid rich tributes to the Iron man of India Sardar
Vallabhai Patel, whose birthday marked the occasion, and exhorted all
present to emulate the great leader who was the epitome of
transparency,  integrity  and uprightness.  “Vigilance advises how to
go about things and it is a friend, not a foe,” CEO reiterated.
Stating that ignorance of rules cannot be an excuse, Mr. Prasad
commended the Vigilance Department of RSP for taking steps to create
awareness amongst contractors and suppliers by organising interaction
with them in the course of these celebrations. Recalling the recent
formation of Ethics Clubs for RSP school children in which Corporate
Vigilance had taken a lot of interest, Mr. Prasad said it was like
sowing a   seed which would grow into a massive tree of transparency
and ethics. “If you can make society better, things would
automatically improve and obviate the need for vigilance, which is a
desirable thing,” he emphasised. Drawing an analogy with  the epic
Ramayana, CEO said because of the ideal Rama Rajya which existed,
there was no need to have a separate Vigilance set up in that era.
Stating that Vigilance covers the total gamut of plant operations, Mr.
Prasad expressed his confidence  that RSP would continue to make
progress  in an ethical way.
Speaking on the occasion Mr. S Shekar, ED (Works) stressed the need
for  corporates  to not only focus on profits but also to  develop a
culture, vision and values all based on ethical standards. Stating
that success without ethics is meaningless, Mr. Shekar exhorted the
RSP collective  to reinforce the ethos of  integrity in all things
done.
The Vigilance pledge was administered to all present in Odia by Mr. U
Mishra, GM(Projects), in Hindi by Mr. P S Bhadauria, GM(Projects) and
in English by Mr. R K Mitra, GM (Sinter).Earlier Mr. T S Prakash, ACVO
delivered the welcome address and read out the messages of the
Honourable President of India and the Honourable Prime Minister.
