BJD announces to hold state-wide agitation against fuel price hike


Bhubaneswar-The Biju Yuva Janata Dal (BJYD) on Friday announced to organise state-wide agitation against the petrol Thursday’s petrol price hike.
“The UPA’s fresh decision to hike petrol price will break the backbone of the common man. In the past four months, the UPA government has hiked the price of petroleum products for the second time. T his time, the hike of Rs 3.14 per litre of petrol is really unbearable. We will continue to protest until this harsh decision is withdrawn,” said BYJD president Sanjay Das Burma.
The BYJD led by Mr Burma on Friday organised a massive protest rally in the capital city. The rally, among others, was attended by Bhubaneswar (Central) MLA Bijoy Mohanty, Ekamra MLA Ashok Panda and city mayor Ananta Narayan Jena.
Over two hundred BYJD members marched from the Master Canteen Square to the Lower PMG shouting slogans against the UPA government. Later, they burnt effigies of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
“The middle class people are now left between the devil and the deep sea. The fresh hike threatens to ruin their economic backbone completely.  The common man will no longer dream of running his motorcycle. He has to keep his bike at home and move either on foot or on bicycles,” said MLA Mr Mohanty. 
On Thursday, chief minister Naveen Patnaik had strongly criticised the hike of petrol price by Rs 3.14. He and urged the UPA government to roll back the rise in petrol price. 
BJD leaders Babu Singh, Rabi Samal, Kishore Tarai, Lopamudra Buxipatra, Amar Nayak, Dhruba Sahoo, Bijay Nayak, Sanjaya Babu, Prakash Bastia, Gouri Praharaj, Sarat Mishra, Mihir Mohanty, Durga Samantaray, Susant Rout, Amaresh Jena, Prayaskanti Samal, Sunil Pradhan, Rashi Ranjan Kanungo, Pramod Harichandan, Prasant Jagdeb, Ranjubala Raya, Sashmita Nanda, Manju Pradhan, Itishree Jena and Sarala Swain also participate in the rally.
