DUMB-FOUNDED GANDHARI’S UNTOLD STORY AND BUDDHA’S CRAVING FOR PEACE ELEGANTLY EXPRESSED IN KUCHIPUDI & ODISSI

Bhubaneswar : Like Bhamakalpam in contemporised production on Mahabharat depicting the inexplicable happings of apalled Gandhari, Draupadi and Kunti, the fine intricacies of Abhinaya synchronized with emotional dramatic aspects, the celebrated Kuchipudi danseuse Vyjayanthi Kashi and her students of Shambhavi School of Dance presented some enchanting numbers with elegance and perfection. This well-planned creative execution enlarged its boundaries to showcase varied gestures with grace, dignity and subtlety. With emphasis on principles of Karanas, with the swing and placement of the arms and statuesque postures maintaining graceful lining, the production beautifully and truly counterbalanced both Lasya and Tandava. The sequence like getting hundered sons through boon but nobody left after Mahabharata and Draupadi to be shared among five Pandavas and ultimately gambled away in the game of dice in Kurusabha much to the dismay of Pandavas, made the audience spell-bound for its beautiful choreographic presentation. The agony of Gandhari & Draupadi was elaborately articulated through exquisite dance movements and facial expression by Smt. Vyjayanthi Kashi. The script was prepared by Prof. Udyawara Acharya and Smt. B. Jayashree and music rendered by Vidwan Prahalad Rao and Vidwan Chadrasekhar Kedilaya. The concept, Choreography, Natuvanga, Direction and Dialogue were given by Smt. Vyjayanthi Kashi.

The dance choreography Buddha Upakshyana potrayed the events like his brother Debadutta killing a swan, encountering an old man, a diseased person, a corpse and an ascetic which ultimately enligtened him to  get Nirvana. The dramatic intensity with abudance variety of dance patterns punctuated with Sabda Swara Pata typical to Guru Deba Prasad style engrossed the audience.
