Awareness campaign on Dengue by Red Cross volunteers
Bhubaneswar ( Odisha Samachar Bureau ) –
Providing Health & Care service is one of the core areas of the Indian Red
Cross Society, Odisha State Branch (IRCS-OSB). Looking at the prevailing situation
of Dengue in few districts of Odisha, Red Cross Odisha branch had oragnised an
awareness campaign on Dengue with the support of its members & volunteers.
In the morning at 9.00 a.m a Human Chain was formed by Red
Cross members, Junior & Youth Red Cross volunteers, Counsellors and staff
members of the state branch in front of Red Cross Bhavan, Unit – IX,
Bhubaneswar to disseminate information regarding the causes and remedies of
Dengue to the public by holding placards, displaying posters and raises slogans.
Besides, leaflets on Dengue were also distributed to the passers by. More than
350 Junior Red Cross & Youth Red Cross volunteers from Govt. Girls High
School-Unit-2, Satya Sai Girls High School, Unit – 3, Govt. Boys High School,
Unit – 2, Govt. Boys High School, Unit – 6 and Govt. Boys High School, Unit- 9
and Maharshi College of Natural Law, Acharya Harihar Mahavidyalaya, City Womens
College, Kamal Nehru Womens College, Institute of Media studies, R.D Womens
College, Kalinga Institute of Social Science, Indian Institute of Yogic Science
participated in the programme. Red Cross members such as Smt. Mamata Padhi,
Smt. Ashalata Dash, Smt. Madhumita Mohapatra, Smt. Basanti Jena, Sri Prasanna Rath, Sri Jogeswar Subudhi
also actively participated in the awareness programme. The said programme was
coordinated by the Dr. Mangala
Prasad Mohanty,
Honorary Secretary, IRCS-OSB and supported by Sri Nagendra
Nath Das,
Honorary Joint Secretary and Dr.
Sarita Supkar,
Youth Red Cross Officer.
Further, at 11.00 a.m Dengue awareness and cleanliness drive was
organised at Satya Nagar Basti, Bhubaneswar under the
leadership of Dr. Mangala Prasad
Mohanty, Honorary Secretary,
IRCS-OSB along with Red Cross members, volunteers and staff member of IRCS-OSB.
Senior Citizen of Satya Nagar as well as eminent singer Sri Prafulla Kar, Sri Bijay Mohanty, Hon’ble
M.L.A, Sri Padmanav Das,
Corporater, Social worker Smt. Sumitra Tripathy and Sri
Dipu Kar
had joined in the programme. The cleanliness drive & Dengue awareness
programme was effectively organized with the support of local inhabitants and
slum communities
It has also been decided to organise
cleanliness drives in the colleges & school campus as well as Red Cross
Bhavan on 13th & 14th August, 2013 to prevent the
spread of Dengue & Malaria.
