Dance Drama “Taala Tatwa”

The most significant element of Indian music is Taala. Taala is not only the soul of music but an essential part which creates a complete balance and symmetry in the vibrations or movements, producing a resonance in our emotional being. However the origin of Taala is as interesting as its development.

Legend speaks of Ravana, an ardent devotee of Lord Shiva and pleaded the Lord to dance for him. Lord Shiva started dancing with full energy vigour and deep engrossment, as a result of which the bells were detached from the waist thus creating the Sapta Tala.

Being rejuvenated, the Taal itself danced with joy and ecstasy much to the satisfaction of its creator.
