Central University of Orissa awarded as Emerging University of the Year in Tribal Areas



Bhubaneswar ,21/7 ( Odisha Samachar Bureau ) - The Central University of Orissa was awarded as the "Emerging University of the Year in Tribal Areas" at the Study World Annual Excellency Awards organized by Study World, More Media Private Limited, New Delhi at Hotel Imperial, Janpath, New Delhi on 20th July, 2013. Prof. (Dr) Surabhi Banerjee, Vice-Chancellor of the University has received the award from the Chief Guest Dr. Shashi Tharoor, Hon'ble Union Minister of State for Human Resource Development on the presences of veteran journalists, Mr. Karan Thapar and Ms. Nalini Menon and other noted media persons of India. By the opinion poll conducted by Study World, More Media Private Limited and recommendation of jury's, the Central University of Orissa was selected as the "Emerging University of the Year in Tribal Areas".

The Central University of Orissa was formed in 2009 under the Central Universities Act, 2009. Prof.(Dr.) Surabhi Banerjee, is the founding Vice-Chancellor of the University . Presently the university is running Master’s programme in eight subjects with plenty more in the pipe line. Research programmes are being started from the upcoming academic session in five centres of the University. It has already hold three Convocations in 2011, 2012 & 2013. Eminent social thinker of Odisha Smt. Annapurna Moharana was conferred a degree of Honoris Causa along with an eminent scientist, Prof. Bikash Sinha and Prof. Anil Gupta in 2012. Noted Social thinker Smt. Tulasi Munda was conferred a degree of Honoris Causa in 2013 .

The academic programme is going to start in the new campus of the university at Sunabeda. The campus is spread over 430 acres and a majority of infrastructural work have been completed. Guest House and Boys’ Hostel were inaugurated by the Hon’ble Union HRD Minister on the 3rd Convocation day of the University.
Courses in teacher education, education technology, healthcare and a school of law figure in the list of courses to be introduced by the Central University of Orissa at Koraput in the academic session of 2013-2014.
CUO will begin admissions this year to various courses under its newly opened school of Education and Education Technology. The courses include Masters in Education Technology and one-year B.Ed. and two year M.Ed. courses in teacher education.
These programmes will offer students and teachers the opportunity to develop theoretical competence and critical insight for using ICTs in education appropriately, opined the Vice- Chancellor of the university, Prof. Dr. Surabhi Banerjee.
