Patkura, 21/7 ( Odisha Samachar Bureau ) : Pundilo village under Garadpur block in
Kendrapara district has created an
identity for itself for its unique guests – bats, the nocturnal birds. Thanks
to the villagers who have been taking care of them for years, eminent
personalities said on Saturday while attending a bats’ protection awareness
programme organised by Ever Green Forum, a organization working on protection
and preservation of environment.
Speaking on the occasion as Chief
Guest, Tejeswar Parida, President of Delhi based “ Yuba Odisha,” said bats were an
important part of the ecology and the need to be cared for maintaining a fine
balance between human civilization and environment.
He assured that he would bring into the notice of the International
community to works towards protection of this endangered species.
Chief Speaker Bibhudatta Jena said many people were killing birds with
a blind belief that their meat carried medicinal value. “This belief is totally
unfounded and untrue. We should not kill bats as they serve in many ways to
keep environment clean,” Mr Jena said.
Garadpur Tahasildar Renuprabha Nayak exhorted the delegates and
students for organizing the awareness programme.
“Bats have brought a new name to this village at national and
international level. We will try our best to extend all possible cooperation to
see that this news reaches to more and more people,” she said.
Talakusuma gram panchayat sarapanch Ashok Jena, Netaji High School head
master Digambar Sahoo, U.P. School head master Prabhakar Jena, senior forest
officer Prasanna Kumar Mohanty also spoke on the occasion.
Ever Green Forum President Engineer Prakash Jena underscored the need
for protecting birds. He called upon the students participating in the
awareness drive to plant fruit bearing trees so as to feed the bird.
Prior to the meeting, students had taken part in a march and debate
completion. They were felicitated by Yuba
Odisha President Mr Parida.
